Fault-Tolerant Control Method for Inter-Turn Short Circuit Faults of Switched Reluctance Linear Motors in Rail Transit

This study introduces a model-free generalized predic-tive control (MFGPC) scheme designed for switched reluctance linear motors (SRLMs) with tolerance for inter-turn short circuit faults (ITSCF), suitable for emergency conditions of rail transit after ITSCF occurrence. ITSCF is a common SRLM failure mode. Following an ITSCF, motor parameters change, and the fault se-verity becomes uncertain. The resulting unknown electromagnetic characteristics render conventional lookup table (LUT)-dependent control strategies significantly limited under these con-ditions. Consequently, traditional LUT-based force ripple suppres-sion methods, such as the force distribution function (FDF) method, struggle to achieve effective control during ITSCF. This paper proposes an MFGPC scheme featuring two key innovations to address these challenges. First, real-time parameter identifica-tion adapts and updates the system’s predictive model despite fault-related uncertainties, eliminating reliance on LUTs. Second, the predictive model utilizes only the total electromagnetic force and the phase currents, avoiding the need to measure individual phase electromagnetic forces. Simulation and experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
