Control system runtime environment for anesthesia process automation

In this work a runtime environment for the anesthesia control system is proposed and analyzed. The main objective consists of developing a flexible and computationally efficient software framework capable of running a wide group of control algorithms. Continuous research progress on the intravenous anesthesia control system systematically improves existing solutions that are extensively validated by using an in silico study, making clinical evaluation a necessary next step in its development. In this scenario, the modular architecture and flexible software framework facilitate implementation with widely accepted communication protocols and medical equipment. The main goal of this software is to collect patient data from the monitor, process it to update the user interface, execute the control algorithm, and finally send the control signal to actuators. The developed runtime environment is designed to provide the anesthesiologist with the necessary information through a graphical user interface, allowing the setting of all important parameters. Moreover, all the framework is prepared for easy transfer from automatic to manual mode in the case of an emergency. The introduced software is analyzed in the context of the execution time of its key components to determine the available time slot for the computation of the control action.
