The potential of SDNs and multihoming in VANETs: A Comprehensive Survey

This paper presents a comprehensive survey of $\mathbf{3 0 0}$ research papers from 2009 to 2024 analyzing the integration of multihoming with Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Programming Protocol-independent Packet Processors (P4), and Service Function Chaining (SFC) in Vehicle Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). The analysis highlights the importance of routing techniques tailored for dynamic VANETs environments, highlighting the critical challenge of delays due to intermittent connectivity and rapid topology changes. The research indicates that integrating SDNs with these technologies to aid multihoming in VANETs establishes a basis for forthcoming developments in vehicular communication systems.
