Terahertz Communication's Future Potential for Impacting Telemedicine: A Visionary Perspective

Telemedicine is transforming global healthcare by enabling remote consultations and diagnostics through advanced virtual platforms. Terahertz (THz) communication, situated between microwave and infrared bands, offers exceptionally high data rates, ultra-low latency, and intrinsic security features crucial for safeguarding sensitive medical information. This paper presents a visionary perspective on leveraging THz communication for telesurgery, predictive medicine, and remote patient monitoring, while addressing key challenges such as atmospheric signal attenuation, device miniaturization, and regulatory compliance. We explore integration of THz systems with artificial intelligence and 6G networks, proposing hybrid architectures that combine reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) and fiber-optic infrastructures to enhance signal reliability and extend coverage.
