Frequency and directional response of a reflection type optical hydrophone: A simulation study

Fiber-optical hydrophones are very robust and can withstand high sound pressure. They have a characteristic frequency response, at higher frequencies (wavelength comparable to fiber diameter) reflected waves start to contribute to the measurement. Additionally, material of the fiber will contribute to the frequency and amplitude response. We investigated this effect, including directional response, by frequency domain finite element method simulations, and compared the results against commonly used analytical models.
