Bionic Venus Flytrap Wearable Ultrasound Transducer Capable of Dual-Section Imaging

Ultrasound imaging technology enables both preoperative detection and intraoperative biopsy guidance for thyroid nodules. However, conventional rigid large linear arrays are limited by their inability to conform to skin curvature, which restricts the imaging field of view (FOV) and often provides only a single imaging plane. To address these limitations, we present a wearable ultrasound transducer inspired array (WUTA) by the biomechanical structure of the Venus flytrap. The device incorporates two 64-element linear arrays backed by a highly attenuating flexible backing material, allowing it to adapt to human skin curvature and achieve a high-resolution, dual-plane ultrasound imaging FOV. The central frequency and -6 dB bandwidth are 6 MHz and 73.3%, respectively. Measurements using a commercial anechoic cyst phantom demonstrated axial and lateral resolutions of 0.62 mm and 0.65 mm (for the first plane), and 0.68 mm and 1.05 mm (for the second plane), with a contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) of 1.57.
