Joint Waveform and MMF Design for Detection and Jamming Integrated Multifunction Radar

To cope with the increasingly complex electromagnetic environment, the development of multifunction radar (MFR) has become an urgent necessity. This paper proposes a joint waveform and mismatched filter (MMF) design method for detection and jamming integrated MFR (DJI-MFR), which simultaneously enables target detection and non-cooperative radar countermeasures. The integrated waveform consists of both probing and jamming waveforms. The jamming waveform is generated by convolving the intercepted waveform to create deceptive false targets, while the cross-correlation between the intercepted and probing waveforms is constrained to produce suppressive jamming. At the receiver, the MMF is designed to extract the probing waveform and suppress the jamming waveform, thereby enabling effective target detection. To meet the practical system requirements, various constraints including total transmit energy (TTE), constant modulus (CM) and waveform similarity, are considered to formulate the joint waveform and MMF optimization problems. These non-convex problems are decomposed into subproblems using the alternating minimization algorithm (AMA), and then solved using the gradient projection algorithm (GPA) and the least squares algorithm (LSA). Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed integrated waveform and MMF design method.
