A Secure and Efficient Lightweight Cryptographic Framework for IoT Applications with an Optimized S-Box for the PRESENT Algorithm

The main objective centres on enhancing security methods that secure today's cryptosystems. The first step begins with performing in-depth analysis of cryptographic literature before continuing toward the domain of LWC and its application in IoT scenarios. The selected algorithms need comprehensive analysis followed by modifications which solve the current weaknesses observed in existing systems. The following segment includes a brief summary of these system weaknesses as a basis for new development foundation for the development of innovative strategies. The analysis of the PRESENT algorithm constitutes a subsequent investigation point. A novel substitution box the PRESENT block cipher receives a new substitution box (S-box) design in its ultra-lightweight version which represents a cutting-edge approach of block encryption lightweight algorithm. The proposed design of S-box consists of two distinct phases static S-box creation and dynamic optimization. The experimental section of MATLAB 2021 reveals better outcomes when the proposed design was implemented the proposed PRESENT cipher shows better performance than its existing version throughout different measurement points. The proposed cryptographic technique underwent extensive verification testing of its efficiency outcome. The method underwent extensive comparative evaluations with different established ciphers which included PRESENT and KLEIN between others. The evaluated ciphers include AES, LED, LILLIPUT. Across multiple the proposed system achieves superiority against modified PRESENT cipher through performance evaluation of throughput and energy consumption and power and software efficiency. When compared to other models, the suggested modified PRESENT method's total accuracy is 96.8%.
