Development of Electronic Circuit for HF and VHF Radiation Generated by Lightning

This paper presents the development of high frequency (HF) and very high frequency (VHF) buffer circuit for detection of lightning. The objective of this study is to evaluate the circuit performance in filtering the frequencies, specifically at 3 MHz and 30 MHz. The simulation was performed using NI Multisim software due to its user-friendly interface. The simulation results demonstrate that the HF circuit effectively filters signals at the desired frequency, with minimal deviation from theoretical values and prior studies. The simulated center frequency for the HF circuit was 3.0159 MHz, with an error of only 0.14%, while the bandwidth error was 0.4%. In contrast, the VHF circuit exhibited a shift in center frequency compared to theoretical calculations and previous studies, likely due to modifications in circuit topology, which affected the center frequency and quality factor. Overall, the findings confirm that the proposed circuit topologies can isolate the desired frequency components, with variations primarily attributed to component tolerances and circuit modifications. These results contribute to the development of optimized filtering techniques for high and very high frequency lightning measurement applications.
