Accurate Detection of Electrical Capacitance Tomography under Strong Interference in Metallic Media

With the continuous improvement in data acquisition accuracy and image reconstruction algorithms, Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) has been widely used in industrial multiphase flow monitoring and other fields. However, in some engineering practical application scenarios, the electric field distortion triggered by the presence of metal has a significant impact on the system's detection accuracy, resulting in the information of the medium being measured being masked. In this paper, we propose a “differential normalization” method. Various simulation models containing metal rod media are constructed in COMSOL and MATLAB to detect and test the media. Simulations and experimental validation are also carried out. The test results show that the effects brought by the metallic medium can be solved based on the “differential normalization” method, and good reconstruction results are obtained. The new method proposed in this paper provides new solution ideas for the practical application of ECT technology in complex media conditions.
