Research of Submarine Power Cable Route Detection System Based on Three-axis Fluxgate Magnetometers

This paper introduces a submarine cable route detection system based on three-axis fluxgate magnetometers, which is light in weight and integrated into an AUV. The system includes a set of magnetometers used for measuring underwater magnetic fields, who can determine the position of the submarine power cable based on the angles and magnitudes of the magnetic fields in different directions. A signal processor, which is connected to AUV by an umbilical cable, is applied to analyse raw data. Field tests results shows that the system can accurately identify single-core submarine cables underwater and has the capability to quickly determine the cable route above the seabed in a range of 3-5 meters.
