Realism or Emotional Simulation? An Ethical Perspective on the Emotional Manipulation Technologies of Virtual Idols

The rapid advancement of AI, natural language processing, and virtual reality is transforming the entertainment industry, especially with the rise of virtual idols. Unlike traditional digital characters, modern virtual idols exhibit complex emotional interactions, transcend physical limitations, and form deep parasocial relationships with audiences. This paper explores the technological foundations, historical evolution, and ethical implications of virtual idols, focusing on emotional manipulation technologies and their psychological effects on fans. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the study examines how AI-driven emotional analysis, speech synthesis, and motion capture create hyper-realistic virtual personas capable of dynamic fan interactions. While these technologies enhance user experience and fan loyalty, they also raise concerns about emotional autonomy, cognitive dependence, and ethical transparency. Drawing on moral philosophy and media studies, this paper assesses the risks of emotional manipulation and its impact on free will in digital engagement. It proposes a framework for ethical transparency and regulation, including standards for AI-driven emotional feedback, mechanisms for healthy interactions, and ethical design principles to prevent excessive emotional dependence. This study contributes to the understanding of the socio-cultural and ethical dimensions of AI-mediated digital experiences. Furthermore, this paper introduces deep learning and reinforcement learning algorithms to quantitatively model the emotional feedback mechanism of virtual idols.
