A Wideband Dual-Polarized Radar Absorber Based on Hybrid RCS Reduction Mechanisms

An absorber combining the principles of absorptive metasurfaces and polarization conversion metasurfaces (PCM) presented in this paper. This absorber consists of a dual-polarized tightly coupled dipole-based absorber and an unbalanced coupling structure (UCS) -based scattering polarization converter. Through the integration of absorption, scattering polarization conversion, and subarray phase cancellation mechanisms, the proposed structure enables broadband suppression of backward scattering under dual polarization. The simulated results demonstrate an average backward scattering reduction of 20.4 dB across the operational frequency range of 6~15 GHz. Compared to the reference design employing only the absorptive mechanism, the hybrid mechanism absorber, which additionally incorporates the scattering polarization conversion mechanism, achieves an average improvement of about 7.4 dB in backward scattering reduction.
