A 1-Bit Circularly Polarized Transmissive Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Antenna

A beam reconfigurable wideband antenna based on 1-bit phase resolution transmissive intelligent metasurface has been proposed. The circularly polarized (CP) reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) array is composed of 16 × 16 CP transmissive units with a phase difference of 180 degrees. Two PIN diodes are loaded on the transmission patch of the transmission unit. To ensure the maximum transmission of CP electromagnetic energy., the structures of the receiving patch and the transmitting patch are roughly the same and connected by metal pillar. The simulated results show that in the frequency range of 18.0 GHz-25.0 GHz (33.8%)., the transmissive intelligent metasurface unit has 80% transmittance and 1-bit phase resolution. Left circularly polarized waves undergo angular deflection through intelligent metasurfaces., but their polarization state remains unchanged. By changing the state of each unit on the transparent intelligent metasurface to control the phase distribution., the designed transmitarray antenna has a maximum scanning angle of 50 °.
