Self-Adaptive Wireless Communication System Assisted by Reconfigurable Metasurface and Computer Vision

This paper presents a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) aided self-adaptive wireless communication system (RSWCS) based on computer vision and dynamic beam shaping. The designed RIS consists of 16×161-bit reflective elements whose working frequency ranges from 4.45 GHz to 5.67 GHz. The RIS is adaptively controlled by the field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and a host computer. The real-time position of the moving user is detected by a camera through a computer vision algorithm. Thus, the phase pattern of the RIS can be reconfigured through the real-time position for self-adaptive beam tracking and high-quality communication. Furthermore, the prototype of system is fabricated and measured in indoor scenarios. The measured results show that the proposed system completes the self-adaptive beam tracking and wireless communication.
