A Hybrid Algorithm for Automated Placement of CMOS Standard Cells

As the complexity of standard cell library design increases, automated placement of CMOS standard cells becomes essential for shortening design cycles and reducing costs. This paper presents a hybrid algorithm that combines graph theory and heuristic methods to automatically generate and optimize the placement of CMOS standard cells. A custom graph theory algorithm is developed to find Euler paths for logic gates, while the simulated annealing algorithm is used to handle the placement of asymmetric standard cells. By strategically selecting algorithms based on the characteristics of the standard cells, the proposed approach efficiently optimizes area, net complexity, and pin density. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can achieve optimal layout quality and significantly improves the efficiency standard cell library layout development.
