Design and Development of a Real Time IoT-Based Headwater Phenomenon Monitoring and Warning System Using myRIO

Headwater occurrences represent a serious risk to ecosystems, public safety, and infrastructure due to their unpredictable and hazardous nature, characterized by rapid changes in water clarity and sudden rises in water levels. This project aims to develop a robust Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system designed to manage these challenges with precision and reliability. The system includes a micro limit switch sensor for real-time water level detection and a rain gauge with a Hall effect sensor to assess rainfall intensity. The data obtained is sent to the ThingSpeak platform for real-time visualization and stored securely for further analysis. Lab Viewis utilized for advanced data processing and automated analyses, which improves predictive abilities and decision-making. To enhance safety measures, the system includes an LCD display for remote alerts and a buzzer for on-site sound notifications, securing rapid and effective responds to possible emergencies. This project provides a scalable and efficient method for dealing with the risks linked to headwater events by implementing IoT technology and integrating advanced monitoring and alert systems.
