Integrated Modeling and Control of an 8/6 SRM Drive using ANSYS and MATLAB Co-Simulation

This paper addresses the closed-loop control of an 8/6 Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) based on a co-simulation methodology involving multiple platforms. The motor is initially modeled with ANSYS Maxwell to represent its nonlinear magnetic characteristics accurately. Four different converter topologies Asymmetric, Split-Link, C-Dump, and R-Dump are separately designed and simulated in ANSYS TwinBuilder. In order to apply the control system, MATLAB/Simulink is linked with TwinBuilder through an s-Function block, and AnsoftSFunction is utilized for signal transfer between the platforms. This provides for real-time gate pulse generation from Simulink and offers the ability to monitor feedback signals like current and voltage directly within the MATLAB environment. Through the observation of the system's behavior under varying converter configurations, the paper indicates the co-simulation effectiveness in the validation of control strategies and motor performance analysis. Among the configurations that were tested, the R-Dump converter indicated enhanced current stability, which indicates its applicability to closed-loop SRM systems.
