Performance Observations in Power System with Grid Forming Inverter

The unintended separation of the grid due to failure of an equipment, weather conditions, or human errors in the presence of grid following inverters faces such limitations. As the grid following inverters are designed to follow according to the grid settings, rendering them unable to continue supplying power and maintaining stability without a connection to the main grid. This highlights the drawbacks of grid following inverters in such conditions. To control these challenges and ensure seamless integration of renewable energy resources and battery storage systems are included into the electrical grids, alternative control methods are needed. GFL controls and offer such functionalities similar to synchronous machines and prove beneficial in addresses these concerns. Hence this shows need of advanced technique controlling technique to offer better stability and for grid supportiveness. In the proposed work, the implementation of an inverter based resource of a Grid forming inverter network model will be analyzed, initially for a disturbance and their responses are validated and implemented using simulation in MATLAB Software.
