Design and Development of a Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) Machine for Post-Operative Joint Rehabilitation using Embedded Control

Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) are Modern devices that are used for the recovery of joints after surgery, or an injury. Without any effort from the user, these devices pivot the shoulder, hip, or knee joints using an active approach. CPM machines help loosen scar tissues and stiffness while increasing the production of lubricating synovial fluid in the joints. The objective of this treatment is to help restore the range of motion and flexibility of the joint more effectively than timed and been proven methods. Utilizing CPM devices typically results in less inflammation and pain, better long-lasting effects, and return to normal activities sooner. Continuous Passive Motion is a machine which gently moves the injured joints after surgery. The device helps the users in bending and straightening the knee by making the movements easy to execute over a period. The device prevents stiffness and promotes flexibility that promotes healing through better circulation. CPM is commonly prescribed directly after surgical procedures like knee replacement surgery or cartilage repair surgery.
