Design Method for Band-Absorptive Energy Selective Surface Based on Magnetic material and Lossy Layer

This paper proposes a design method for a band-absorptive energy selective surface (B-A ESS) that combines the features of a low-pass ESS and an absorber. The B-A ESS can transmit low-frequency signals under low-power incidence, shield low-frequency signals under high-power incidence, and absorb high-frequency signals at both power levels. Two types of absorbers, utilizing magnetic material and lossy layer, are investigated. Equivalent circuit models (ECMs) are established to analyze the performance of the B-A ESSs. Simulation results show good agreement between the circuit simulations and full-wave simulations, validating the reliability of the design method. The proposed B-A ESSs exhibit wide absorption bands and high shielding effectiveness (SE) under high-power incidences, making them suitable for applications in high-power electromagnetic (HPM) protection and electromagnetic (EM) stealth.
