Wideband Multi-Polarization 1-Bit Electrically Reconfigurable Reflectarray Antenna

This paper presents a novel broadband and multi-polarized 1-bit reconfigurable reflectarray antenna. The unit cell employs a unique multi-resonance structure, incorporating a T-shaped parasitic structure to extend the resonance bandwidth of the element at higher frequencies. This design achieves a wideband phase response within the frequency range of 8 GHz to 13.8 GHz, with a relative bandwidth of 53%, reflection loss of less than 2 dB, and a phase difference of 180° ± 23°. Additionally, the element features a centrosymmetric structure, enabling 1-bit phase modulation for either dual linear polarization or dual circular polarization waves. Based on the proposed element, a 12×12 reflectarray antenna is designed, offering a scanning range of ± 60°, a 3 dB gain bandwidth of 42.1%, and a maximum aperture efficiency of 24.1%. This research offers new insights into the design of broadband electrically reconfigurable reflectarray antennas and showcases considerable potential for application in next-generation wireless communication systems.
