A Broadband 1-bit Reconfigurable Metasurface Element Based on Stacked Layers

In this letter, a wideband reconfigurable metasurface element based on stacked matching layers with 1-bit phase resolution is proposed. Electrically driven diodes are loaded between the slots of long microstrip lines to realize load impedance changes under different working states. To achieve broadband matching, a square matching layer is added to the adjustable reflection unit. Phase switching of 180° ± 20° degrees is achieved in the frequency range of 6.7 GHz-11.4 GHz, reaching a relative bandwidth of 52%. Due to the advantages of broadband and wide-angle matching, the proposed reconfigurable metasurfaces have wide applications in fields such as stealth and communication.
