Guided-Wave Characteristics of Periodic Rectangular Coaxial Transmission Line With Low-Cost Additive Manufacturing Insulator Support

This article presents a novel periodic rectangular coaxial transmission line with additive manufacturing insulator support. Its guided-wave characteristics are thoroughly investigated by the numerical Short-Open-Load (SOL) calibration technique. The proposed device under test (DUT) is feed by the standard SMA with a gradient structure and it is de-embedded by the SOL technique to obtain the ABCD matrix of the core periodic rectangular transmission line with low-cost additive manufacturing insulator support. Then, the guided-wave characteristics can be extracted from the de-embedded ABCD matrix. After extraction, the complex characteristic impedance and normalized attenuation constant are obtained for analysis. The proposed transmission line shows the bandgap performance, and the working mechanism is studied. The bandgap performances of the DUT provide a new potential for feeding network and phase shifter. Finally, the relationship between the frequency bandgap performance and the unit number of the proposed transmission line is investigated.
