A Compact Dual-Band Dual-Polarized Antenna Array Based on Metasurface for Wi-Fi Communication

In outdoor high-density Wi-Fi network deployments, access points (APs) generally require external antennas to ensure sufficient communication capacity. While planar antennas are widely adopted for their cost-effectiveness, their concurrent operation in multi-user scenarios inevitably introduces severe link interference. To mitigate mutual interference between antennas operating in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, conventional wireless local area network (WLAN) outdoor configurations typically adopt a horizontally parallel arrangement of dual-band antennas. However, this design paradigm suffers from excessive spatial occupation and elevated manufacturing/installation costs, thereby driving the demand for miniaturized outdoor antenna solutions. In this paper, we propose a dual-band dual-polarized wideband antenna array integrated with metasurface technology. The proposed design achieves significant size reduction while maintaining enhanced operational bandwidth, addressing the critical need for compact antenna architectures in high-density deployments. Simulation results demonstrate that the optimized configuration effectively improves downlink transmission efficiency through polarization decoupling and spatial interference suppression mechanisms.
