High-performance S-Band Lumped-element Filters Based on Multilayer PCB technology

This paper presents a high Q and high-reliability Sband lumped-element filter based on multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) technology, using embedded spiral inductors and surface-mounted ceramic capacitors. A novel double-layer inductor is proposed to enhance the unloaded quality factor and reduce the capacitance. The method to access the electromagnetic model efficiently is illustrated, and an S-band 6-5 elliptic function filter is designed following the above means to validate the demonstrated approach. The comparison of the measured results and the simulated responses is in excellent consistency and shows high stability and reliability over a wide temperature range.
