Rational Power Consumption Management in Smart Automated Control Systems for Power Systems Modes

Power consumption management is used in modern power systems to facilitate their safe operation and reduce electricity costs for all consumers. There is a difference between technological and economic power consumption management. The worst consequences or damages for industrial consumers take place when technological management results in the disruption of technological processes and production plan frustration. This type of management can be used to prevent unacceptable operating modes in power plant equipment and networks, preserve the stability of parallel operation, prevent and mitigate accidents, and avoid large-scale blackouts. The current power consumption management technologies have reached their limits. When developing smart automated control systems (ACS) for power system modes, it is necessary to use rational approaches to power consumption management. These stipulate accounting for technological process specifics, potential damages, opportunities for industrial consumers’ active participation due to their own power sources, shifts of daily load maximums, and the connection/disconnection of specific loads. Setting a permitted power consumption change range helps eliminate or minimize the negative impacts of introduced power consumption restrictions. The limits of the controlled object are normally defined based on the analysis of its operating modes in various network and mode contexts under external and internal factors. In most cases, the development of an ACS for the controlled object cannot be reduced to setting its clear limits. The expansion of controlled object limits due to the consideration of specific elements of connected power systems linked directly to the controlled object helps select the more promising control goals.
