Solar Photovoltaic Integrated DC Fast Charging Station for Electric Vehicle

This paper presents a solar energy-based charging mechanism specifically designed for electric vehicles (EVs). By utilizing photovoltaic (PV) modules, the system aims to significantly reduce dependence on fossil fuels, leading to a substantial decrease in CO2 emissions associated with traditional energy generation. The design begins with a detailed modelling of the solar energy system using a single diode model. This approach allows for accurate representation of the PV modules’ performance. A comprehensive simulation in MATLAB-Simulink to analyse the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics and power output of the solar panels under varying irradiance levels is to be developed. This analysis provides insights into the efficiency and behaviour of the solar panels in real-world conditions, optimizing their performance for EV charging. To enable effective charging, the system incorporates unidirectional DC-DC converters connected directly to the PV modules. Multiple charging stations are integrated into the design, ensuring accessibility for EV users. Additionally, the system connects to the electrical grid through a three-phase bidirectional DC-AC inverter. This connection facilitates seamless energy flow between the grid and the charging stations, allowing for EV charging even during periods of low solar generation.
