Selective Solar Power Plant Shutdown System During Reverse Power Conditions

Selective Shutdown System for Solar Power Plants Solar power plants are integrated into the power grid, and during redundancy conditions, the system may become unstable, and damage solar equipment or energy costs significantly. This paper proposes a new Selective Shutdown System for solar power plants to optimize the disadvantages of redundancy conditions. The system consists of voltage and current sensors to continuously measure the direction of power flow. The microcontroller-based decision-making unit monitors and analyzes the data for activating a selective shutdown mechanism if reverse power flow is detected. Unlike traditional methods that disconnect entire plants, this system selectively disconnects specific solar modules to optimize energy utilization and grid stability. Prototype implementation on solar farms proves promising in real-time detection, rapid response (within 100-200 milliseconds), and automated recovery; thereby minimizing the disruption and improving grid reliability. The proposed solution introduces a cost-efficient, scalable, and efficient alternative to existing green power shutdown mechanisms, paving the way for enhanced integration of renewable energy sources into modern power grids. Future enhancements, such as IoT-based remote monitoring and AIbased fault prediction are also suggested.
