Extension of the Shielding Effectiveness Method ’Wire Coupling’ for Large Enclosures up to 44 GHz

The paper describes the extension of a previously proposed measurement method for the determination of the shielding effectiveness of larger cabinets. The new method uses a simple setup consisting of straight wires both for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves. The method was proved usable for smaller racks and up to 8 GHz. After that a larger object in the form of a metallic cargo box was investigated. Additionally, the test frequency was extended up to 44 GHz. The proposed method was compared with standardized shielding effectiveness determination methods, for which the upper frequency limit is currently at 18 GHz. Our investigations can support the definition of a new standardized method for shielding attenuation measurements beyond 18 GHz.
