Evaluation of a Load Balancing Technique for Contemporary Intelligent Networks

The continuous increase in network loads, together with the emergence of new technologies such as cloud computing and big data, have made the management of traditional networks difficult. The use of software defined networks (SDN) offers an answer to this problem; however, the implementation of these networks may lead to abnormal distributions of internal traffic and overloading of various links. To make the network more intelligent, the solution is to add a load balancing mechanism to the system. In the current work, the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) is selected as a load balancing technique for application to an SDN network, and OpenFlow switches connected to POX controllers are used. Finally, representative data are presented to evaluate the contribution of MSTP to the QoS for the SDN networks.
