A Novel Adaptive Current-Mode One-Cycle Control for High-Voltage-Gain Power Converters

Adaptive current-mode control is well known for its robustness against load disturbances, while one-cycle control offers strong tolerance to input disturbances. Combining the advantages of both strategies, a novel control method—adaptive current-mode one-cycle control—is proposed in this work. This approach aims to overcome control lag and preserve the compact design of controllers for high-voltage-gain, non-minimum phase converters, which are often susceptible to external environmental factors and internal parameter variations. These susceptibilities can degrade system response speed and overall control performance. Furthermore, the proposed method is particularly suitable for wireless power transfer (WPT) applications due to its robustness, as WPT systems are prone to disturbances from coupling misalignment and load variations. This method enables efficient energy transfer and stable operation under these conditions. As a representative case study, the proposed adaptive current-mode one-cycle control is applied to an I4SL-Boost converter, where “I4SL-Boost” denotes a four-cell switched-inductor Boost topology. The system is analyzed under various conditions, including input disturbances and different loads. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Finally, experimental verification is conducted by comparing it with the traditional current-mode control method. The experimental results show that under both input voltage and load perturbation tests, the I4SL-Boost converter employing the adaptive current-mode one-cycle control strategy exhibits superior control performance—particularly in terms of reduced overshoot and faster regulation time—when operating with the same control gain.
