ENCoRP: A Tool to Compute and Visualize an Electrical Network’s Conductive and Radiative Propagation

We present ENCoRP, a tool for computing and visualizing the frequency-domain conductive and radiative propagation associated with an injected signal traversing a user-defined electrical network. Emulating real-world power grids, ENCoRP allows the user to construct an electrical network composed of cables and nodes, with cables containing phase wires and ground/neutral wires and nodes representing various electrical elements, including transmitters, receivers, junction boxes, terminating loads, and shunt loads. ENCoRP is composed of a MATLAB-based graphical user interface that works in conjunction with a Python conductive model and COMSOL Multiphysics® radiative model. The interface may be used to visualize and output the network parameters (ABCD, S, Y, or Z), spatially resolved voltages and currents, or electric and magnetic fields. The underlying models and equations are presented, the numerical limitations are discussed, and the results are verified against Personal Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis (PSpice). We conclude with an application of the tool to a hybrid wired-wireless system wherein we examine the electromagnetic fields experienced by a standalone device in the presence of an electrical network.
