SAP-IIoT: Secure Authentication Protocol for Industrial Internet of Things using Elliptic Curve Cryptography

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is revolutionizing the industrial operations by integrating advanced technological solutions to enhance productivity and efficiency while reducing the resource wastage. However, the rapid adoption of IIoT comes with significant security challenges. Therefore, in this paper we propose a novel Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) based mutual authentication protocol to eradicate the security concerns of existing IIoT infrastructure. Accordingly, the informal security verification of our protocol is performed that shows our protocol is robust against all well-known security threats. Further, the proposed protocol is simulated using AVISPA simulation tool and the results exhibit that our protocol is SAFE against both replay and Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attack. Thus, the proposed protocol achieves comparable higher security than the existing literature, making it suitable to be implemented in real-world IIoT infrastructure.
