A Method for Multipath Clutter Suppression in Outdoor Fields Based on Low-Scattering Enclosures

When conducting RCS tests in outdoor fields, if the target elevation angle is large, it is easy to form multipath clutter of the "target-ground-target" type. To address this issue, the current common method is to lay absorbing materials in the target area. However, in outdoor environments, the performance of absorbing materials can be attenuated due to environmental influences such as rain and humidity, which leads to ineffective suppression of multipath clutter and affects the accuracy of the tests. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes a method for multipath clutter suppression based on low-scattering enclosures. By deflecting the electromagnetic waves from the "target-ground" path to other directions, the "target-ground-target" transmission path is disrupted, thereby suppressing multipath clutter. Simulation results show that this method can achieve a multipath clutter suppression effect of up to 20 dB. Moreover, the enclosure material used in this method is metal, which has stronger environmental adaptability compared to pyramidal absorbing materials, making it more suitable for use in outdoor fields.
