Design of Network Stack for Embedded Micro Kernel Operating System

To address the trade-off between resource constraints and real-time performance, micro kernel architectures, featuring low runtime overhead and flexibility, have been widely adopted in embedded operating systems. However, in network communication scenarios, frequent inter-process communication among applications, the network stack, and network drivers introduces significant overhead, degrading network performance. This paper analyzes the key sources of performance degradation in micro kernel network stacks and proposes a user-space network architecture tailored for micro kernels, along with an optimized inter-process communication mechanism, to effectively improve network performance.
