Design and Simulation of Spiral V-Shaped SPR-PCF Biosensor for Detecting Cancerous Cell

This paper proposes the design and simulation of spiral V-shaped Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) based Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) biosensor for detecting cancerous cells. In this, four layers are formed with two types of air holes. Gold (Au) is selected as a plasmonic material. A variation in the refractive index (RI) from 1.368 to 1.401 is observed among different types of cancerous cells. It is done with the help of Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis achieved in COMSOL Multiphysics. To determine amplitude sensitivity, various types of cancerous cell are examined. The amplitude sensitivity of Breast Cancer Type-I is found to be −703.031 RIU⁻¹ and Cervical Cancer is calculated for −131.491 RIU⁻¹. Additionally, −448.411 RIU⁻¹, −263.834 RIU⁻¹, and-667.350 RIU⁻¹ are determined for Adrenal Gland Cancer, Blood Cancer, and Breast Cancer Type-II, respectively. The wavelength sensitivities for mentioned cancerous cells are 3571.423 nm/RIU, 1666.667 nm/RIU, 2047.248 nm/RIU, 2857.143 nm/RIU, and 3333.33 nm/RIU, correspondingly. In addition, the resolution attained for each type of cancerous cells are 2.8×10⁻⁵, 6×10⁻⁵, 4.88×10⁻⁵, and 3.00×10⁻⁵.
