Optimization of Mismatch Power Loss in Photovoltaic Arrays: Impacts and Mitigation Strategies

Mismatch power loss significantly affects the efficiency and overall performance of photovoltaic (PV) systems. These losses result from physical and electrical disparities between solar modules, often caused by factors such as temperature variations, partial shading, soiling, and manufacturing tolerances. This paper examines the impact of power degradation in PV arrays, presenting novel findings from an investigation into various interconnection strategies designed to mitigate such losses. The study examines the influence of different connection topologies, specifically the Series-Parallel (SP) and TCT (Trunk Cable Topology) methods, as well as various hybrid configurations under diverse shading conditions. One important observation is that the TCT connection continuously works better than other topologies, providing minimum power loss-just 6% deterioration is seen even in partial shade circumstances. On the other hand, the Series-Parallel approach showed the most deterioration, at about 59.29%. Other hybrid topologies, including HC- TCT and AL-TCT-BL, were outperformed by hybrid models, like BL-HC and AL-TCT-DT, which demonstrated positive results. The results highlight the significance of topology selection is to improving PV array performance and indicate that advanced connectivity strategies powered by real-time data and AI-based optimization might further raise the energy output and long-term dependability of PV systems. According to the study, future investigations into frameworks for adaptive interconnection for optimal energy production might be very important in the development and deployment of PV systems with higher efficiency.
