A Slotted Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna for 5G Millimeter-Wave Communication Systems With Multiband Characteristics

G millimeter-wave applications has become one of the challenging areas to develop compact and efficient antennas due to the increasing need of high-speed data transfer rates and robust communication. To overcome this challenge, a slotted multiband patch antenna with a compact size is presented in this work to support the 5 G millimeter-wave based applications. A dimension of 10mm x 8mm and a 0.34 mm thick Rogers RT5880 substrate material is used to design the multiband MPA. The rectangular patch incorporates one triangular and two rectangular slots, along with a rectangular parasitic element added to the top middle to enhance the antenna performance. Based on the simulation results carried out in CST Studio Suite, the antenna covers three distinct frequencies such as 29.7 GHz, 37.9 GHz and 42.5 GHz with respective return loss of -29.69 dB,-18.27 dB and -41.84 dB, all within the mm-wave spectrum of 24.25-52.6 GHz. This suggested slotted multiband patch antenna provides gains of 6.83 dBi}, 5.07 dBi and 6.89 dBi respectively. The radiation efficiencies of \mathbf{91.68%,88.64%, and 88.22% were also obtained for the designed Antenna. Based on the evaluation of these performance parameters the proposed antenna can be expected to be highly suitable for 5 G use, primarily because of its reduced size and multiband characteristics.
