Stability Analysis of PMSG-Based Wind Farms Under Three-Phase Ground Faults in Hybrid Power Systems

This paper investigates the impact of grid faults on the performance of a wind farm integrated with a 9-bus power system. The wind farm consists of five Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSGs) with a total capacity of 100 MVA, connected to the power grid via a 33kV/66kV transformer and a 66kV/230kV transformer. The power system includes three conventional power plants: two thermal power plants and one hydropower plant. The study focuses on the dynamic response of the wind farm under different fault conditions, including three-line-to-ground (3 LG) faults at varying durations. Simulation analyses are conducted using PSCAD/EMTDC software, and the results are presented in terms of active power output, terminal voltage, DC-link voltage, and rotor speed of the PMSGs. The findings provide insights into the stability and control of wind farms during grid disturbances, demonstrating the control system's effectiveness during network disturbances and offering valuable information for grid operators and system designers.
