Design and Performance Analysis of a Multi-Slotted Elliptical Patch Antenna for High-speed Communication Applications

The rapid advancements in wireless technology have created a growing demand for high-performance antennas capable of operating efficiently in the terahertz (THz) frequency range. To meet the increasing need for an innovative antenna design, this paper presents the design and development of a multiple V-slotted elliptical shaped patch antenna for high-speed communication applications. The antenna is constructed on a Rogers 5880 dielectric substrate with a loss tangent of 0.0009 and a thickness of 2.16 µm. The proposed antenna has a compact footprint of 70×60×4.56 µm³. Performance enhancements were achieved by incorporating multiple slots into the patch, which were analyzed using the CST Microwave Studio electromagnetic solver. The antenna exhibits three distinct resonant frequency bands: 6.54-6.93 THz, 7.90-8.65 THz, and 8.66-9.60 THz, with corresponding return losses of − 47.14 dB, −25.30 dB, and −27.75 dB, respectively. Additionally, the proposed antenna demonstrates wide bandwidths of 390 GHz, 750 GHz, and 940 GHz, and achieved peak gains of 7.45 dB. The antenna is excited by a tiny microstrip feedline with a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms. The multi-slotted patch antenna exhibits significant potential for high-speed applications, providing an efficient solution to address the demands of next-generation wireless communication.
