A MultiPath Forwarding Based Congestion Avoidance Strategy for Content Centric Networking

Content Centric Networking (CCN), as a future network architecture, has revolutionized the traditional end-toend resource sharing through ubiquitous caching and flexible multipath forwarding mechanisms, which are based on content name-based identity. However, its congestion control mechanism still suffers from the problems of insufficient fairness and low utilization of network resources. In this paper, we propose Multipath Forwarding based Congestion Avoidance (MFCA) strategy. This strategy warns the network congestion status in advance by monitoring the content popularity length, and dynamically allocates different proportions of traffic to other available paths according to the content popularity. Simulation experiments show that the MFCA can make full use of the suboptimal paths for multipath forwarding while maintaining the fairness of the flows with different popularity, thus effectively avoiding the occurrence of network congestion, and significantly improving the network utilization rate.
