Design and Analysis of a Frequency-Selective Surface based Ka-Band Linear-to-Circular Polarization Converter

This paper presents a single-layer frequency-selective surface based linear-to-circular polarization converter. The converter utilizes split-ring structures and effectively transforms a linearly polarized wave into circularly polarized wave at 34.5 GHz. It is designed on a single layer of Rogers RT/duroid 5880 substrate, with a thickness of 0.7 mm, and features metallic cell of size 0.272λₒ × 0.259λₒ (where λₒ is the free space wavelength at 34.5 GHz) printed on both sides. The proposed converter is highly compact, with a size of $0.0074{\lambda _o}^3$.
