Design and Implementation of Low-Cost Lidar System

Lidar is an established method for producing precise and comprehensive three-dimensional landscape point cloud models. With recent advances in Li-Dar technology, the accuracy potential of Li-Dar data has substantially increased. At the moment, the main drawbacks of Li-Dar are its expensive cost and difficulty to determine distance in adverse weather. This project focuses on the design and execution of a cheap Arduino-Based Li-Dar that produces 3D measured data that can be used to create a three-dimensional plot. Using a low-cost Li-Dar sensor and two servo motors allows us to cover the full hemisphere. When programmed in the ARDUINO IDE, the sensor will not only offer the distance but also the point coordinates of every location where the pulse hits and bounces back. This low-cost Li-Dar can be used for variety of applications with the help of few modifications.
