Adaptive Spirometry: A Computational Approach to Correct Pulmonary Function Readings Across Different Environments

This study explores the biological and physiological changes in human lung function under varying pressure, gravity, and temperature conditions. Traditionally, these factors are assumed constant in spirometric evaluations, leading to inaccuracies in pulmonary function tests such as Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 Second (FEV1), Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), and Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) under variable pressure and gravity. This work introduces a novel mathematical model that adjusts spirometry readings based on environmental variations using fundamental gas laws and biomechanical adaptations. The proposed model is implemented for real-time sensor adjustments, ensuring accurate assessments in space medicine and extreme terrestrial environments. The results shows 10% increase in FEV1, 5% decrease in FVC, and 12% reduction PEF for different conditions having significant impact of gravitational and pressure variations on lung function.
