Improved Cascaded DC–DC Boost Converter With Multiple DC Source and Reduced Part Count

The multiport converters (MPCs) are preferred over multiple single-input converters in various applications, such as electric vehicle charging stations and distributed energy systems, due to its advantages, including simplified circuitry, improved efficiency, and reduced cost. However, these converters often face challenges such as low voltage gain and inefficient source utilization, primarily due to their reliance on a splitting duty ratio concept. To address these challenges, this article proposes a high-gain multiinput dc–dc converter. The proposed converter achieves high step-up voltage with minimal components, without extreme duty cycles or high-gain techniques. Moreover, it includes fault tolerance, ensuring continuous output voltage even under source failure conditions. The converter also supports bidirectional operation. A comparative study is presented, evaluating various performance metrics to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed configuration. The operational principles and converter analysis are discussed, and a prototype is developed to experimentally validate the theoretical analysis.
