Offshore Wind Farm Layout and Cable Coplanning Optimization Considering Marine Meteorological Factors and Seabed Topography Characteristics

The layout optimization of offshore wind farms (OWFs) seeks to minimize capital expenditure while maximizing energy generation over the entire operational lifespan. It requires accounting for the natural inter-action of marine environmental factors such as dynamic meteorological conditions (e.g., wind patterns, wave forces, and sea temperature) and submarine topographies (e.g., seabed gradients and sediment stability). To address this, this study conducts an integrated analysis of meteorological factors and quantifies the impacts of wake effects on energy production efficiency. Furthermore, it incorporates the influence of complex seabed topography and cable topology on overall costs. From a life-cycle perspective, this research proposes a collaborative optimization model for turbine siting and cable network design with the objective of maximizing Net Present Value (NPV). The model integrates wake effects, cable costs, and seabed conditions into a unified optimization framework. The results show that the proposed multi-field coupling OWF layout optimization model can better integrate the influence of various marine environmental factors on the preliminary planning of OWF, and has important guiding significance for the planning and design of large-scale OWF in the future.
