Study on Reverse T-Shaped Staggered Double Vane Slow Wave Structure for THz Traveling Wave Tube

This paper presents the design and analysis of a reverse T-shaped staggered double vane slow-wave structure (RTSDV-SWS) with sheet electron beam for THz traveling wave tube (TWT) applications. The dispersion and transmission characteristics are investigated using both eigenmode and time-domain solvers in CST Studio Suite. Dispersion analysis shows phase velocity within the desired range and enhanced interaction impedance across the 0.98 to 1.1 THz band. Transmission characteristics reveal excellent input matching, with reflection coefficient S11 remaining below −10 dB from 1.02 to 1.08 THz, indicating minimal signal reflection. The transmission parameter S21 shows reduced performance (−30 dB) at 1.02 to 1.05 THz due to conductive losses. A beam wave interaction analysis is carried out to know the RF signal amplification. These results establish reverse T-shaped SDV-SWS design as a promising foundation for advancing high-frequency slow-wave structure research.
