Silicon-Based Terahertz Beam Scanning Metalens Antenna

This study presents a novel design of a silicon-based terahertz (THz) beam-scanning antenna using Risley prism beam deflection principle. The proposed system achieves beam steering through the mechanical rotation of dual supermetalenses. The silicon metalens offers the dual advantages of minimized loss and compatibility with complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) fabrication processes. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed THz antenna achieves a beam scanning range of 0–42 degrees at 675 GHz, with a peak gain of 29.8 dBi and a 3-dB bandwidth of 22.2%.
