Shared-Aperture Beam-Scanning Array Antenna for Satellite Communication at Ku/Ka Band

This paper presents a Ku/Ka dual-band phased array antenna (PAA) for satellite communication. The proposed antenna has been designed to operate at Ku band (17.8-18.9 GHz) and Ka band (28.4-29.5 GHz) with a frequency ratio 1.6:1. A dual-band radiator is applied. High and low-frequency elements are interleaved placed to support the characteristic of dual-band large-angle scanning. A 13×15-element integrative PAA is simulated. The simulated results show that over 25 dB of isolation between high and low frequency and ±60° scanning range are achieved in the operating bands.
